About Us

Welcome!

St Peter’s is a lively, family-friendly church offering a mixture of traditional and more contemporary worship. We have at least two services each Sunday and a Sunday School. We also have other activities including a toddler group, children’s and youth clubs, house groups, bell-ringing and more!

Our regular congregation includes all ages and we welcome anyone regardless of where they are on their journey of faith. The church is here for the whole community of Norton and we recognise that we are all explorers together.

We want our worship to honour God, and to enable all to meet with him. Our vision is for everyone to feel comfortable exploring the big questions of life and to feel at home in our church family. This leads us to be creative in our worship, honest in our teaching and discussion and caring in our consideration of others.

We hope you will join us at one of our services, an event, or meet some of our congregation out in the community! God cares for us and we care for the people of Norton. We want people to be blessed in every aspect of their lives by the love of God as shown in Jesus Christ.

Serving

We encourage our church family to support those who need it most through initiatives such as the Ryedale foodbank. We also work with other local organisations, including Norton Town Council, and other local churches to share God’s love for Norton. We want to build our links with the community and are open to suggestions.

Our buildings

St Peter’s church was built at the turn of the 20th century, to replace the old church of St Nicholas which stood where the Derwent Swimming Pool is now. The church is spacious and well-cared for and is a popular venue for weddings and baptisms. St Peter’s is also used as a venue for concerts and other events as we can offer a large space with good acoustics. Our Lady Chapel is Norton’s war memorial. We have a peal of eight bells. Church House is available to hire by the community for a range of activities and community events. It is currently used by toddlers, children’s groups, dance classes, karate classes and others.
